The Mount Shasta Martial Arts Program is pleased to offer a variety of self-defense training sessions to our community. Our mission is to help everyone be healthy, happy, and safe.
Martial Arts for Ages 40+ (or, who feel 40+)
Thursday 7:30 to 9:00pm
Learn effective self-defense strategies and techniques. Especially valuable for women. No previous experience necessary. This informal training session leverages the wisdom and power of age to regain flexibility, strength, and confidence in your body to be fit and safe at any age.
Yongmudo: Flexibility of Response
Tuesday & Thursday 6:15 to 7:30pm
Yongmudo’s origins stem from self-defense and involve techniques meant to control and deter an opponent with a minimum of effort and a maximum of efficiency. Techniques include throws, joint-locks, and groundwork as well as kicks, blocks, and strikes. This is an ideal martial art for those individuals looking for something with lots of variety of techniques and who really want to mix it up with other training partners.

Taekwondo: Precision and Finesse
Monday & Wednesday 6:15 to 7:30pm
Despite its popularity with local children, taekwondo is not just for kids. For teens and adults, it provides the means to improved fitness through a vigorous, aerobic training program of stretching, kicks, and strikes. These techniques are all connected through efficient, coordinated footwork and balanced stances. With state-of-the-art protective gear, taekwondo also enables participants to test their techniques, power, timing, and strategies through full-contact sparring.

Self-Defense Workshops for Teenage Girls & their Mothers
On occasion, we offer Self-Defense for Young Women Workshops. These workshops usually span six-weeks covering a variety of topics. Based upon a popular credit course at St. Mary’s College of California, young womn learn how to handle themselves in different situations to avoid and manage difficult and even dangerous situations.
The first Mount Shasta Martial Arts Self-Defense Workshop was held in Summer 2008 followed by our second workshop in Spring 2009. Topics covered handling oneself in social/dating situations and groups. Emphasis is on using awareness, assessment, and action to manage oneself well to be safe and stay safe.
